This Health and Safety Policy sets out the principles and procedures followed by our removal company to protect employees, contractors, customers and members of the public during all moving and storage activities. We are committed to conducting our operations in and around Uxbridge in a way that prevents injury, ill health and damage to property.
Our objective is to provide a safe and healthy working environment for everyone affected by our work. We will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, approved codes of practice and industry guidance applicable to removal and relocation services. Our goals are to prevent accidents, reduce risks associated with lifting and transport, and promote safe behaviour at all times.
Health and safety considerations form an integral part of our planning for each move, whether domestic or commercial, local or longer distance. We will provide adequate resources to implement this policy and review it regularly to maintain continual improvement.
Senior management has overall responsibility for health and safety performance within the company. Management will ensure that:
Suitable and sufficient risk assessments are carried out for removal work, storage activities and vehicle operations. Safe systems of work are developed, implemented and communicated to all staff. Employees receive appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision. Equipment, vehicles and tools are properly maintained and safe to use. There are clear procedures for reporting, recording and investigating accidents, incidents and near misses.
Managers and supervisors are expected to lead by example, promote a positive safety culture and take prompt action to address unsafe practices or conditions.
Every employee has a legal and moral duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Staff must:
Follow all training, instructions and safe working procedures. Use equipment, vehicles and protective gear correctly and only for their intended purpose. Report hazards, defects, accidents and near misses without delay. Co-operate with management on all matters relating to health and safety.
No employee is required to undertake any task that they believe to be unsafe. Concerns should be raised with a supervisor or manager immediately so that appropriate action can be taken.
We carry out risk assessments for typical removal activities, including packing, loading, unloading, carrying items, use of lifting equipment and driving in urban and residential areas. Site-specific assessments are completed where required, taking into account access restrictions, parking, stairs, lifts and any unusual hazards.
From these assessments, we develop safe systems of work that may include the use of additional staff, mechanical aids, route planning, time allowances for difficult access and specific controls for fragile or heavy items. These controls are communicated to the crew before each job begins.
Manual handling is a key risk in removal work. All staff engaged in lifting and carrying receive manual handling training, including the principles of safe lifting, team lifting techniques and how to assess whether a load is safe to move.
Where practicable, we use handling equipment such as trolleys, dollies, sliders, ramps and lifting aids to reduce strain. Long or bulky items are moved by teams rather than individuals. Staff are instructed to refuse to lift items that are beyond their capability or that cannot be moved safely given access conditions.
Our removal vehicles are maintained to a high standard, with regular safety checks, servicing and inspections. Drivers are expected to carry out daily pre-use checks and to report any defects immediately so that remedial action can be taken.
We plan routes to minimise risks associated with heavy traffic, narrow streets and restricted access where possible. Drivers must comply with all road traffic laws, speed limits and parking restrictions. Safe loading and securing of furniture and goods is mandatory to prevent load shifts, vehicle instability and damage to property.
Respect for customer premises and the surrounding community is an essential part of our safety approach. On arrival, the team leader will assess access routes, floors, stairs, entrances and outdoor areas to identify any hazards such as uneven surfaces, low ceilings, poor lighting or obstructions.
Protective coverings may be placed on floors, carpets and bannisters to prevent slips, trips and damage. Where possible, work areas will be kept clear of unnecessary obstacles and members of the public will be discouraged from entering active loading areas. Special care will be taken in busy residential streets, shared entrances and commercial sites.
All accidents, injuries, near misses and damage must be reported to a supervisor or manager as soon as reasonably practicable. We maintain an accident record and investigate incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective measures.
Emergency arrangements are in place for fire, medical emergencies and road traffic incidents. Staff receive guidance on how to respond in an emergency, including evacuation procedures, making emergency calls and safeguarding customers and bystanders.
We provide induction and ongoing training relevant to each role, which may include manual handling, safe loading, use of equipment, vehicle safety and hazard awareness. Refresher training is given when needed, for example following an incident or changes in work processes.
We consult with employees about health and safety matters and encourage suggestions for improvement. This policy and its associated procedures are reviewed regularly, and at least annually, to ensure they remain effective and appropriate for our removal services in the Uxbridge area.
Through proactive management, employee involvement and regular review, we aim to continually improve our health and safety performance. Our intention is to deliver removal and relocation services that are not only efficient and professional, but also consistently safe for our staff, our customers and the wider community.
We are proud to be one of the most well-respected removal companies Uxbridge and to offer professional removal help at prices everyone can afford.
